My garlic has grown bulbs!
In May I wrote a post about planting out garlic in pots to help deter pests and of course for use in the kitchen. Since then I’ve been using the leaves from that first crop, just cutting them up and putting them in meals to enhance the flavour. My first crop of garlic leaves had been quite plentiful but in the last few weeks they have been gradually dying back.
Dying back is a great sign, it means that my bulbs of garlic are ready to be picked. Of course I wasn’t expecting miracles considering I had planted the smallest cloves. The anticipation was killing me as I carefully dug around in the soil until I felt a BULB, I gave it a light tug and out she popped, a home grown garlic bulb.
I was so excited it was my first bulb for the year and I felt so proud showing my man. HeĀ was so excited he suggested we plant another crop and have our own stock pile of garlic. I couldn’t agree more, to have fresh and dried garlic in the home all year round would be fantastic. Just think I would never need to buy garlic again.
With good news at hand we popped the kettle on and had a nice cup of coffee in the garden overlooking the flowers.
